My 19th book is the thriller IDENTITY CONFLICT, which relates the trials of Yuri Reasonov, a US citizen of Russian descent and a CIA secret agent. He was recruited by the CIA, trained along a period of two years, and was sent to the eastern coast of Russia through Japan. As an outcome of a navigation error, the Japanese whaler disembarks him before dawn near the town of Nakhodka, where he gives himself up and joins the Russian intelligence Service the SVR. His temporary operator Alina travels with him to Kazan to establish his new cover story, and after six weeks he is sent to Toronto Canada as a press attaché with the Russian consulate, while his task is to contact the SVR dormant agents in North America.
After a rather short period of time he is sent back to Moscow, according to demand of the SVR team's head of the Toronto consulate; who fears that the Canadian internal security service will find out the newcomer past history as a CIA agent.
Thus Alex Garin that is his new identity is sent to serve with the San Francisco Russian consulate; where he is supposed to be the main factor in a top secret project. He smells a rat and defect a second time and flees to New York. The SVR sends Alina to lure him out of his hiding.
