The first story, The Card Room, begins when Hooter decides to operate a poker den in an old morgue he just happens to own. Unfortunately for all concerned, The Mob controls all the gambling in the city. This leads to the inevitable violence you've come to expect but you still get the pole dancing girls. The second tale, The Hitchhiking Girl, has violence, humor and even romance in about equal amounts. It opens with Gearshift picking up a girl hitchhiker while he's running an illegal cargo of booze. Things don't turn out as smooth as the contraband Scotch whisky. The final book in this hardboiled collection, The Dancing Girls, has two beautiful girls persuading Gearshift and Dipstick to get them jobs as pole dancers at the
