About This Book

Her Legacy is a story of the resilience of the human spirit. Kaman, a poor village girl who has no benefit of formal education, is constantly badgered by her parents to marry the quintessential son-in-law. Mr. Sumo, her father, wants Kaman's husband to be a hardworking son-in-law, the son he never had, and someone he could control at will. Instead, Kaman marries Vai Sekou, a proud, wealthy young man who later comes to believe, wrongly, that his extravagant dowry and other gifts to Kaman's parents did actually purchase her, and that he could treat her however he liked with impunity. To his surprise, however, she teaches him more about being human than he had learned from his self-styled values-oriented family. Her quiet spirit and decisive actions also change him from being the egotistical husband with the brash behavior to a sensitive and caring companion. But that's not all. Papa and Mama Bamba, her husband's parents, are also changed from being the hypocrites that they were--people who hid behind their wealth, power, and values--to the honest parents Vai Sekou had longed to have. For herself, Kaman is now the heiress to the Bamba family: a great wife and mother, astute business manager, and a trusted confidant to her husband. Finally, Kaman demonstrates that the human spirit is most resilient, as well as proves that a lack of formal education is not equivalent to stupidity. Meet Kaman in Her Legacy.
