Staff Nurse Jessica Brook has known and loved the brilliant young doctor for six years - ever since she started nursing at Hartlake Hospital. As well as being ambitious and dedicated, all the nurses agree that Clive Mortimer is an attractive devil.

But the trouble is that Clive is sometimes an ardent and tender lover - at others he is cool and hurtfully casual. Finally, when Jessica sees him fooling around again with one of the first-year nurses she is determined not to be dangled on a string any longer - but the action she takes means that very soon Hartlake turns into Heartache Hospital.
