Lilly...

Standing here, trying on the gown Versace designed for my wedding, I have to ask myself: Who am I kidding with all this?

This isn't me. I'm not elegant, not refined. I kind of hate all of this... and what's more, I kind of hate myself for hating it.

What was wrong with me? Surrounded by all the luxury anyone could dream of, and I still wasn't happy.

Maybe it was because, in the back of my mind, I still wondered why someone like Damien Black would pick someone like me...

How did you propose to someone who had already agreed to fake-marry you? Who you were "engaged" to, at least as far as your friends and family were concerned… along with everyone else on earth. It made things complicated, to say the least.

And what's more, I couldn't shake this nagging feeling, this question in the back of my mind... Why was Lilly with me? Was it the money, like all the others? Or was there something she saw in me that the others didn't?

I paid her in full. Now all I could do was wait, and see if she stayed. See if she loved me, like I love her.

Or maybe she'd run, and I'd know what a fool I'd been to trust someone like Lilly Maverick...
