Because of her illness, Star has never gone to school, never hung out at the mall, never had the chance to make a best friend.

Then, at Hope House, a place where Star goes when her illness is at its worst, she meets Courtney Cambridge, and they become friends. Courtney is a popular cheerleader with a boyfriend—she is everything Star has always wanted to be.

But Courtney is going home soon, back to her normal, healthy life, and Star is scared. When Courtney discovers how sick Star really is, will Star lose the first real friend she's ever had?
