Highly successful and ambitious physicians from St. Matt's Hospital in Manhattan are dying one at a time under suspicious circumstances as a mob war rages in the background over control of contracts to renovate the Brooklyn Bridge. John Cesari MD, a gastroenterologist with close ties to the underworld and currently the medical director of St. Matt's, is aiding the police investigation into the deaths of his colleagues while helping a good friend work his way through marital problems.
