The slaves died quickly and the lions soon turned their attention to him. He waited. Move less, strike fast. That was the best way to beat these ones.
The biggest one stood in front of him. He remembered it from a few months back. He had cut out one of its eyes. It must have recognized him because it sprang at him hoping to get vengeance.
He stepped aside and the lion collided with the wall. Aaron rammed his sword through the side of its neck and started to run along the side of the wall as the other lions approached.
He knew he would have to find some advantage.
He saw a spear in the mess of bodies and ran out towards it. The lions decided to charge and cleared the distance quickly. He rolled over his torn shoulder and cried out in pain as his body went over and he landed on his feet with his good hand on the spear.
He brought the spear up and stabbed in through the leaping cat before rolling to his side and throwing his short sword at the last lion. It knocked it away with one large paw and charged.
He stood ready. Now was the time to live or die. It would all be up to luck.
