Beth Lambert has become the best student in Miss Johnson's class, as well as the president and chief presiding officer of the Pretty Pennies Girls Club of Pocahontas, Arkansas. She's even in the running for the Abner Jerome Brady Leadership Award from Old Rugged Cross Church, and Beth just knows she's the clear winner.

So when Philip Hall gets the Abner Brady Award instead of Beth, she's furious. She immediately begins to plot her revenge, coaching the Pretty Pennies to victory in a relay race against Philip's own gang, the Tiger Hunters. But Beth is worried—what if she's not born to be a leader after all?
