When Sylvia's dashing new husband, John, offers to whisk them from the 1950s grime of city living to take the tenancy of a country pub, Sylvia dreams of an idyllic life in the Yorkshire Dales.Sylvia, John and her brother, Robert arrive in Wharfedale to find The George at Hubberholme near-derelict. Without electricity or mains water, and only an ancient Aga to cook food, Sylvia embodies true Yorkshire grit and sets out to make The George her domain. With their impenetrable accents and interesting dress sense, the Upper Dales' farmers drift in on curiosity to laugh at the Townies, and stay to become true friends.But with a spendthrift husband who has an eye for the ladies, Sylvia's is a rocky yet humorous road that encompasses celebrity guests, loveable locals, wayward animals, and an upstairs ghost.
