When Dorothy Yuen, an American girl of Swedish-Chinese descent, came to war-town Shanghai, she and her family were plunged into the thick of the fighting between the Chinese and Japanese. Dorothy quickly learned to live with danger, terror and chaos, as she became an unwitting courier for Chinese Intelligence and attempted to keep one step ahead of the Japanese invaders.

But Dorothy also found time for romance. She was unable to choose between her many suitors, and became known as the Sweetheart of the 14th Air Forces, the Flying Tigers. Due to her courage and devotion, she was decorated by the American government for bravery, and finally despite tragedy and heartbreak, found the one man with whom she could share her life!
