Near twenty years ago Gene McCarthy wrote his first book about the going-on in Virginia's Rappahannock County. He was green back then. But a few decades of discussions at the F.T. General Store have seasoned him to life where "nothin's as simple as it seems." Finding "merkles" isn't simple. On occasion Sen. McCarthy has found these tasty mushrooms in the wild.
