Eve, Ben's singer "girlfriend" and part time poker player in a crocked game run by a ranking policemen, moves into Ben's bungalow to help with bills and Marsha begins painting old crockery from French Quarter bungalows under rehab to sell in shops around Jackson Square. Stuart is unemployable, becomes depressed and begins drinking. He "falls in love" with Eve and wrongly thinks she loves him. In her spare time, Marsha finishes Ben's book and, using her connections, gets it accepted by a NY publisher. A mistaken identity causes Stuart to be attacked by thugs representing Cynthia's husband. Ben, selling weed to bring in money, is arrested. Eve tries to get him released. Stuart fails in an attempted suicide. Cynthia is killed and Ben is charged with her murder.
