The Knights Templar: They were the warrior bankers of their day, fabled to possess vast riches, wealth almost beyond even modern comprehension. Storied wealth brought real and great avarice. Philip of France and Clement of Rome both acted, yet gained almost nothing, not ships, not treasure, little of substance outwith the Commandery's properties. Philip and Clement died within the year of De-Molay's execution, died in frustrated knowledge, for they like Edward of England, all knew where the treasure, the massive fleet, the missing serried ranks of Templar's had gone. They knew, but could say nothing. They knew, but could only take that knowledge to their graves, for Holy Church, the Kings of England and France, none could acknowledge authority defied and frustrated. They'd known it for years before De-Molay's burning at the stake, a burning which in ways was a final scream of frustration by thwarted men now forced to acknowledge both treasure and Templar's were forever beyond their reach. It was a burning set to unleash hell on earth for England's armies, it would echo down the centuries.
