What would you do if your husband planned to run for president without telling you first? What would you do if he won? This is the predicament which faces Shelley Diggs, a New York City-based writer, when her husband, Barry Welles, a member of the City Council, launches his presidential bid in 2020. After Barry wins, Shelley's entire life is turned upside down.Resenting the loss of her career, her privacy, and her freedom, Shelley resists the responsibilities of her role as First Lady of the United States and her marriage slowly crumbles. Desperate to reclaim her old life, Shelley leaves her husband after he completes his second term and returns to New York.However, Shelley soon finds herself longing for her husband.
