About This Book

When a dead body is found in the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge after the annual deer hunt, Federal Wildlife Officer Hall McCormick assumes a terrible accident has happened. But after mysterious excavations appear on nearby islands, a bridge is set on fire, and a dolphin is killed, Hall wonders if there's a murderous criminal on the loose, or if this is just a string of bizarre coincidences. With the help of Detective Varnum and fishing guide Silas Pickens, Hall needs to figure out if a rogue environmentalist is trying to stop the development on nearby Boyd's Island, or if something more nefarious is behind the crimes. Hall just wants to get back to his regular routine of checking fishing licenses, getting to know his girlfriend better, and keeping Port Royal Sound, South Carolina safe for animals as well as people, but then someone starts shooting at him and Hall must get to the bottom of these mysteries, to save his own life.
