About This Book

Ms. Lottie is a fictional name with a true character behind it. Facts have been changed to protect her privacy. She was born in Louisiana in 1915. She remembers well the things she saw and lived through, and only now as an elderly adult can she rid her mind and her heart of the burdens and secrets she has kept throughout the years. When I started talking to Ms. Lottie I mentioned that some material was quite personal and asked how she felt about its being made public. She replied to me that her time on earth was limited, and she felt she had to tell the world things she had seen and endured because of racism, night clubs, and family betrayal. She shared the pain she went through as a child the first time she saw a man hanged, and the way she felt inside when she witnessed innocent babies being murdered simply because they were half white, and many other tragic stories.
