A harried investigator for the Paloma County, California D.A.'s office, Brian Kayne finds the time--somewhat reluctantly--to attend an art show with his mother and endure yet another matchmaking attempt. Surprisingly his "date," artist Joanna Starrett, is an intriguing woman. So are her paintings--one in particular. For Jo has unwittingly put to canvas the scene of an unsolved murder inspired by a poem from her collaborator.

How much does Jo know about poet Sam Fox? Could he be the link to the fatal disappearance of a mother and daughter? But as Brian begins to find answers, he unwittingly draws Joanna into danger, as a killer continues to make murder an art form....
