Widow Jessy Turner knew that she had better take Cort Lancaster up on his offer, or lose the diamond-and-ruby necklace Cort had won from her no-good husband. The heirloom was the one thing that Jessy could truthfully claim her own, and she wasn't about to give it up.

Besides, marriage to the powerful rancher would protect her from the slimy BJ Johnson. And even Cort's insistence that she produce an heir didn't seem as bad as it had at first.
