On the threshold of adult life, Julie Covington is filled with confusion and self-doubt. She knows that marriage to Dennis, a union that is wholeheartedly embraced by her family, would provide a safe and secure future for her.

But deep within her heart Julie feels that that is not enough to sustain her for a lifetime. She wants to be accepted as a serious artist, and she wants to possess a love as vital as the one her grandmother had for her first love.
