About This Book

This memoir follows the events of a single American coming to Thailand in the late 20th century, with no contacts, little money, and no handle on the language. Within a short time, he secures rural property, and is on his way to developing an experimental organic farm specializing in fruits and nuts not previously found in Thailand. This 250 page richly illustrated book gives a glimpse in to the challenges and experiences of acclimating to a culture on the other side of the world. Besides insights to land acquisition, land preparation, and propagating orchard trees, there are chapters which mention brushes with the law, unconventional construction methods, girlfriend challenges, Buddhism and much more. Some chapters focus on travel destinations outside of Thailand, but still in the southeast Asian region, such as Burma, Cambodia, Laos, and the Himalayan region of Nepal.
