Or, victorious, we might have lost a million soldiers invading The Home Islands. In 1941 that was an optimistic prediction; it would have taken a miracle, some sort of super weapon, to give us an easier victory over the fanatics who ruled the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.

In a war in which even victory was nightmare, only science fiction could save us...
