About This Book

In 1956 John Gilroy's collier father killed himself. No one knows why. His father's death gets him a scholarship to an exclusive school. His mother sees this as a way for him to leave the working class hardships his family have always known.

Gilroy studies Russian and is selected for the British spy agency, MI5, while a student in Moscow. He is torn between his loyalty to his mining community roots and the new, elite world he has entered. He meets Ailsa, a beautiful MI6 officer and they begin operations against the KGB in London at the height of the Cold War.

This is a British spy thriller set against the Miner's Strike during Reagan and Thatcher's espionage assault against the Soviet Union, complete with agents and double agents, dead letter drops, brush contacts and betrayal.
