Exile

Derrick King lives in New America and loves it. Not because New America is a fantastic place to be. It is not. New America is a dangerous place full of violence and destruction: famine and hopelessness. Conversely, Derrick lives in the beautiful, gated community of Pacific Edge. Not just gated but protected behind massive walls and armed guards. Because Derrick is Chosen. The Chosen live in lavish homes, enjoy advanced medical care, eat the finest foods, and wear the finest clothing. James C Carver created New America when he became king. The Chosen are his special people. They live under the new doctrine he created. Although Carver has been dead for decades, his kingdom lives on. And Derrick King loves everything about it. He is privileged and safe. The world outside Pacific Edge is treacherous. But Derrick has no worries about that, although the thought of it terrifies him. His life was perfect until he made a mistake. A mistake completely out of character. A mistake that warranted exile.
