Excessive Power

At the end of his first term, President Griffin signed The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law, including an amendment stating that the President of the United States has legal authority to detain, rendition, and assassinate United States citizens who are suspected of terrorist acts without due process or legal counsel. In a bold attempt to solidify ideological and political power, newly elected President Richardson, with his carefully selected cabinet and Senator Bolles, who sponsored the amendment, decides to take this law to the extreme in order to gain political power. High ranking politicians, judges and activists who do not share the new President's views are being publicly detained or assassinated. Citizens are disappearing across the nation. Attorney Abigail Trenor faces the daunting task of representing two U.S. Senators, Mason and Cavalli, who had the foresight to retain counsel in the event that NDAA was used against the better good. With the assistance of Emily Mason, Senator Mason's wife, and a secretly developed network, they are thrown into a struggle for their own lives and the future of a nation that they have loved.
