Heather Nichols had been brought up in the midst of a warm and happy family in Nichols' Ferry in the Pacific Northwest. Her grandfather, Big Bill Nichols, was known and respected throughout the area and gave Heather prestige in the community; her mother gave her love and affection; her younger brother and sisters alternately worshipped and bedeviled her, and she appreciated both equally.
