Cold wind caresses my body as I lay upon the damp concrete. How did I get here? What was I doing? Heaven only knows it was something that wasn't right. I catch my breath and slowly muster enough strength to move my legs. Reaching for the crack in the concrete, I stretch my frail body. I rise and stagger as I attempt to keep my balance. My vision is blurred, bright blue and red lights dance across my eyelids creating a headache-inducing wonderland.
I feel bile rise up in my throat, but I swallow it down quickly. No time to lose whatever I ate just now. I smell the scent of dirt, motor oil, and blood. Was I in an accident? Did I die? My heart beats in time to the ringing in my ears. Disorientated, I fall back down. The wind is knocked out of my throat as I land square on my back. Warm liquid flows from my forehead and onto my nose. It's rustic and pungent. Blood? But I felt no pain. Perhaps it was what I took at my last party. I shouldn't have done that. But, I couldn't stop. It tasted so good. My fingers itched to continue, my body quivered for that needle, and my heart was weak.
In midst of my craving for a fix; I had gotten into a scuffle at a local bar. I stole the pain pills out of some woman's purse. Her husband caught wind and when I wouldn't let go of their property, he knocked me to the floor. I could feel a couple of teeth come loose. The next thing I remember is being tossed out onto the curb.
