Eve of the Wedding

A quaint German marriage custom has no proper place in a venerable English mansion--but neither does a German ghost, a Poltergeist to be exact. And both will cause trouble on the eve of the wedding. the bride's father is throwing a noisy Polterabend, a pre-nuptial bash highlighted by the mock abduction of the bride. By the time the party's over, it has ended in tragedy: a bride in hysteria, a groom with murder in his heart, and a corpse in the study.

Party guest Kate Theobald, the irrepressible newspaper reporter and her barrister husband Henry don't believe in things that go bump in the night. But if the devil didn't do it, which one of the eccentric inmates of this haunted hause did? Kate snoops at keyholes, Henry rattles the skeletons in the closets, and together they solve a dandy whodunit.
