Rannulf has always considered himself to be a wise man; honorable and loyal to his god and his king. Men seek his counsel and women seek his bed. His wisdom and the strength of his sword helped Bohemund win the great city of Antioch. So when his enemy, a Turkish enchantress named Ayla, saves his life and is given to him instead of being sentenced to death, he feels more than capable of controlling her and making her his in every way.
But Ayla has a way of speaking and behaving that confuses him. Her magic and false gods are evil and yet he can't seem to condemn her for them.
