Emily Malone returns home to Texas, after almost three years of living in New York. When she gets to her uncle's ranch she meets Austin. Emily really likes Austin, but she has decided to keep a deep dark secret from him. While in New York, she had a horrible expierence. She was raped late one night. This was the worst night of her life, but she later found out that she was pregnant. Emily loved her child more than anything and it didn't matter her the father was. She chose to keep raise the child as a single mother. When she began to have feelings for Austin, she thought it was best not to tell him about the rape. She wanted to know that he felt the same way about her that she did him. She felt that if she told him, she would get his pitty instead of his love. Just when things are going great for Emily and Austin, the rapist escapes prison and comes after her. He blames her for all his problems and is out for revenge. Can Austin save her in time?
Review from Satin and Lace Reviews: An emotionally seductive tale of a woman and a man who both love each other very much yet fear the result s of bearing their soul to the other. This novel is not only entertaining but plays on the fears and hesitations of most single and divorced adults in today's society. The combination of selfish ignorance, dramatic events and deep unavoidable love creates a must read tale.
Review from Night Owl Reviews
Emily Malone vows that no matter what happened in her life in the past, she's going to move on and make it the best life possible for her and her son, Andrew. Leaving New York and her best friend, Michael, would be hard, but moving back to the country to be with Uncle Arty and Abigail will be the best thing for the both of them. She can only hope that Andrew will love living in the country as much as she did growing up there.
When Emily and Andrew arrive at the Texas airport, they're greeted by Austin, a handsome fellow that works at her family's ranch. The three of them hit if off well together and begin a friendship immediately, but the more Emily and Austin are around each other, the more obvious it is that there's an attraction to one another. Austin is hesitant though to make any moves on Emily because in the back of his mind he's questioning where Andrew's father is in this whole mix. He really likes Emily, but he doesn't want to cause any problems if Andrew's father is still in the picture.
Emily really likes Austin and is thrilled he gets along so well with her son. Maybe now she can start a fresh life for her and Andrew and hopefully that will include Austin too. But what will happen when Austin finds out the dark secret she's hiding from him? Will he still like her after he finds out her secret or will he not want to be bothered with her any longer? Could this truly be a fresh start for all of them or just more hardship they're going to suffer through?
I really thought this story contained a good storyline, though I did find the language to be a bit awkward and redundant at times. The characters were carved out to be everyday people that we can all relate to and I couldn't help but fall in love with both Emily and Austin. I fell for Austin because I felt that not only would he be the perfect person to be Emily's husband, but also the perfect adopted father for Andrew. I felt bad for Emily and all she had to deal with from her horrible past, but I loved seeing how much she loved and adored her family and friends. I had faith that she'd find happiness now being back in Texas. I'm so glad these two lonely people were able to find love, happiness and contentment within each other. I had only hoped that Emily and Austin would get married at some point even though they only knew each other a short time. With a few minor issues throughout, it was an overall enjoyable story to read.
