Emerald Hawks

    Born in a high mountain holler shortly after World War Two, Emerald Hawks has inherited the healer's abilities passed down through her mother's generations. Emerald loves her home and is learning the Healer's ways when her restless father decides to uproot his family and join the migration of southern families headed north to find work. Shy and reticent, the Hawks family begin a new life that brings new  ways to be learned.

Bolen and Thursta, Emerald's mother and father, her brothers West and Hank, sisters Lottie and Lucy, and Neil and Flint, a nephew and cousin, share their tribulations and laughter with us as they encounter the ways of their new world.
