IT BEGAN WITH THE UNEXPECTED SOUND OF SHATTERING CRYSTAL...

Maura stared in bewilderment at the broken fragments of the vase. Accidents were bound to happen, especially in an antique shop. But one look at the stranger who had just walked in convinced her it was not carelessness.

"I'm very sorry," he said. "It was clumsy of me."

The way he looked at her, the tone of his voice.., she knew he had done it on purpose. But why? Who was he? And what did he want of her?

Maura was to find out, and sooner than she'd planned. With terrifying swiftness she was pulled back into the shadows of the past...a past of which she had been only dimly aware...a past which led her into a labyrinth that ended at the brink of madness and murder.
