Heavyweight banker and amateur sleuth John Putnam Thatcher arrives in Tokyo prepared for the usual rounds of power meetings and golf games. Then, Carl Kruger, the darling of Wall Street, stuns the business world with the news that his electronics company is about to start competing with the Japanese in their home market.

Or will they? For every person working to push the deal through, there seems to be another trying to stop it. And one of them is willing to kill to get his way.
