Don't Let Him Hit is an inspirational short story based on the life of a young Black kid growing up in a housing project in the deep South during the late l950's and early l960's. His family and friends affectionately call him June Bug. June Bug loves baseball and spends a lot of moments analyzing his feelings as the team leader. The story depicts the inner conflicts and the highs and lows of a little league baseball player struggling with his identity and his desire to help his team win their first ever championship. He finds himself easily intimidated not only by his view of the opposing team, but also by how much his own team depends on him.
