About This Book

Have you ever wanted to be friends with a dog who would bark and run away? Maybe it's a rescued dog. Adopting may come with some challenges, but they become so appreciative and loving once they know they're at their forever home Here's a story about a rescued dog named Dixie and how she learned to trust a family friend. This non-fiction, endearing book tracks the progression of a one-year-old dog who was rescued from the streets of Georgia. The illustrator for this book, Helen Retynsky Kamins, and her two sons, consider adopting a dog despite Mom's continued sadness over their loss of their Black Lab Saba. This new addition to the family, named Dixie, has gotten used to her immediate family but has trouble dealing with other people. One of them is Rob Dinsmoor, a close family friend who is also a writer. Rob often accompanies Helen and Dixie on walks. After compiling his stories about Dixie, they decided to use them as the text for a children's book. This delightful tale describes life with an adopted dog and demonstrates patience and compassion. While recouperating from a scheduled operation, Helen took advantage of her limited mobility to work on providing illustrations for Rob's words. The result of their collaboration is "DOES DIXIE LIKE ME?"
