About This Book
Jack Beckett was arrested on the outskirts of Casper, but he wasn't worried. He hadn't done anything, especially two murders. Six hours later he was cut loose by the sheriff who got an earful from the FBI Director in Chicago who told him Beckett could find bad guys like a heat-seeking missile. "I don't know what you did in Chicago," the sheriff said, "but the FBI loves you."
Before he cut Beckett loose, the sheriff asked if he could help with a small problem in Casper. Two dead bodies of rich guys with their throats cut had turned up hours apart. Beckett agreed, but he wanted to work with the deputy who arrested him, Deputy Janie Sherman.
The new crime-fighting duo of an attractive deputy sheriff and a former boxer traveling around the country agreed to meet for dinner. Beckett showed up with blood on his otherwise clean shirt. Asked if that was blood, he said, "yes ma'am." It seems Beckett interrupted two guys trying to steal his classic '68 Mustang.
The real action started the next day when Beckett began to collect clues that was quickly leading to the killers, a pair of sad-sack brothers who had decided to become hitmen to pay for their drug habit. The brothers, however, were simply pawns in a much bigger conspiracy that involved land, mineral rights, and a plan to defraud the United States government.
There are more surprises in store as Beckett and Sherman escape one dangerous situation after another. In the end, they get more than they bargained for. But we ain't giving that away.
Praise for Jack Beckett Adventures. "Jack Beckett reminds me of Jack Reacher. If you enjoy lots of action and adventure, read D.G. Baxter's books." – Terry "The Beckett series is one of the best ever. I really need more. I can't get enough of the characters and especially the banter." – GMR
