Scarred since the tender age of eight, Rufus clashed with the Great Deity, Ezyel, in several battles spanning a vast number of planets. Rufus eventually finds himself on Atvienos after accepting a mysterious woman's offer to help defeat Ezyel. Zellie, the young, ecstatic girl whose flowers were ruined in Rufus' crash landing onto the planet, pleads for him to allow her the chance to tag along for the journey. He reluctantly agrees, and the duo fights against countless fiends as they travel across Atvienos. They soon realize the three Grand Cities are all preparing for war, with Princess Kayuu of Urd at the heart of it. Rufus slowly finds himself leading a band of eight adventurers, all trying to bring peace to Atvienos. All he cares for is to defeat Ezyel, but soon realizes the bargain he made wasn’t merely a coincidence.
