The Merry Makers are just getting into their "Hooray for Hollywood" routine when Miss Luna Dixon's wheelchair slides inexplicably into the lake.

Could Jesse Dixon have pushed his wife of more than fifty years to her death? Never, says Mavis Lashley, who knows her neighbors inside and out. An anonymous caller even suggests to the police that there have been too many sudden deaths at Lakeview Nursing Home recently. So when Mavis's detective friend asks her to put a cast on her leg and move in to do some undercover snooping, she's raring to go.

But her Mata Hari fantasies are foredoomed, for the goings-on at Lakeview are ugly and evil—and more likely to land Mavis on the obituary page than in the evening news....
