Reality was a far cry from the post-honeymoon bliss Nicky Titus had envisioned. First came the frantic call, then the flight from Frankfurt and finally the arrival of Sam and Nicky down home in Holton, Oklahoma, where Sam's father, Big Sam, lay in a coma after an "accident" on the ranch.

Young Sam Titus, a rising star in the army's Criminal Investigation Division, knew funny business--and it was clear somebody had tried to kill his father. Despite the feuding that had driven him away years ago, Sam now plunged into his own investigation, becoming a veritable stranger to his new wife.
