About This Book

"Day of the Dead" is set over the days preceding that most important of annual Mexican festivals - All Saints or Day of the Dead over 31 October and 1 November. A contemporary topic, the Mexican drug wars, set in a classic setting, out west on the Texas badlands. This is a unique take on a modern problem, that evil slithering across the Rio Grande. The plot and action in Day of the Dead is realistic and believable, but the power of timeless beliefs and superstitions influencing the character's actions is not ignored. Following the desert shaman Achai's disruption of their affairs, the leaders of the Mexican drug cartels are locked in a ruthless and bloody turf war. Some of the protagonists are offered the services of Wynono, a rival shaman. They do not realise that Wynono is the patron of their evil trade and cannot be used as a mercenary. They are his footsoldiers. The true motivation of this mysterious desert dweller is to get close to Achai and to neutralise his influence for good. Wynono is the true patron of evil and crosses the Rio Grande in his quest to destroy young rancher Quaid's happiness and with it, destroy Achai as well. This is part of the series of stories featuring Quaid Hudson, the young cowboy and the enigmatic old desert shaman, Achai. Each book can be read as a separate story, but the stories sagas flow together into a single epic journey.
