Day of the Blizzard

Katie had never seen snow like this.

The thick flakes clung to her lashes so that she could hardly see. Somehow they slipped down her neck into the collar of her coat in spite of the mohair shawl. At least the wind was at her back. The strong gusts pushed her forward like an unseen hand....

Katie wondered if she should give up. But I promised Mama, she thought. Promises must be kept. I must do this errand. And after all, it's only snow.
