About This Book

19th century, the last years of the Napolean era.

As a child, Louise Marignac is sent to the English countryside to live when her father Pierre du Vallon, an artist, is arrested for treason. Years later, while in Paris, she is astonished to see a painting by her father in a gallery. She also meets James Delamaine, a charming Virginian who has recently been fighting in the American Civil War. Unknown to her, her grandfather has arranged a marriage for her with a cruel and brutal man. Torn between these two men, Louise begins a search for her father.
