When Alison returns to the house where she had spent many happy childhood times, at Abercorrey in the heart of the Highlands, Keith Heseltine does not share her belief that it is possible to be content with memories of the past. But because she had been very hurt when the beautiful, ruthless Geralda had stolen her boyfriend Toby, Alison is in no mood to accept Keith's advice, even though she had to admit that her feelings for him appeared to be different from those she had had in her childhood. It is only when Geralda appears once more, now intent upon Keith, that Alison realizes that his advice to her had indeed been wise.
