It was easy for Kate Lanier to get a job working for the well-known cartoonist and philanthropist, Jeff Morrel. It was easy for her to talk to various community groups, urging them to take part in Jeff Morrel's projects designed to help kids improve their reading and writing.

But it was hard for Kate to face Jeff in the office once she had lost her heart to him. Although Jeff seemed to return Kate's love, his glamorous story editor, Joanna Gray, always managed to come between them. As brilliant as she was ruthless, Joanna would do anything to get what she wanted. And Kate doubted Jeff would ever be free of Joanna's clutches. All the same, she was ready to fight for him!
