About This Book

Cross in the Sand is a story about Richard Carver who was raised on a farm in Louisiana in the 1920s. He discovered his love for God at an early age which would lead him to the Catholic priesthood and a destiny of heroism and tragedy during the Second World War. Richard was to find another love shortly after becoming a priest also, with the lovely Elisabeth Downs. Richard’s traumatic life would be played out on the world stage depicting him as war hero for saving thousands of lives from the death camp at Auschwitz to refusing the ultimate leadership in the Roman Catholic Church, the Papal seat itself. Many historians would speculate that it was his never ending love for Elisabeth that he refused to become the first American Pope but only two people would ever know the real reason, Richard’s sister, Lori, and of course Elisabeth. This is a story of Forbidden Love, God and War.
