Cross Currents

When Dorcas Foley falls in love, it is with all the single-mindedness of her headstrong nature. Her obsession with the charming Kit Mallery must, however, remain a secret, for he is the last man her father would wish his beautiful daughter to marry. Josiah Foley -stern and autocratic- is an implacable opponent of Kit's father, both in and out of the Bermuda Assembly where both men hold office.

Her love is thwarted, and the winter of 1811 finds Dorcas sailing o the Turks and Caicos Islands, married to a man she hardly knows, carrying another man's child, and forced to cope with life on inhospitable Grand Cay- a life complicated further by the hostility of her stepdaughter and the hatred of her husband's competitor in the salt trade.

Won over by the simple goodness of Zachariah, the man she married under such inauspicious circumstances, Dorcas tries desperately to forget Kit, the father of her son, whom she loved so passionately in Bermuda. But Kit is a man who cannot bear to be beaten. His fight for the heart and mind of his son presents Dorcas with a challenge she dare not lose.
