About This Book

GOLD FEVER Mason Proffit has a knack for getting into trouble . . . it just naturally seems to follow him. Being fast with a gun may have something to do with it. Proffit receives a letter from an attorney in Cripple Creek, Colorado informing him that his deceased uncle has left him a gold mine and that he needs to sign papers to transfer the title into his name. But the attorney knows the mine is one of the richest strikes in the area and wants Proffit dead so he can legally acquire ownership to the mine. Enroute to Cripple Creek, Proffit runs into an old friend that he served with in the Union Army, James Butler Hickok, who now goes by the name of “Wild Bill” and is one of the deadliest pistoleros in the west. Hickok agrees to ride along with Proffit. The Bonner brothers, three hardened killers, have been hired by the attorney to track down and kill Proffit. Not knowing who he is, the Bonners lose a large sum of money to Hickok in a card game, and in retaliation, savagely beat him. They made two mistakes - they left Hickok alive and they didn’t realize that he and Mason Proffit are friends.
