About This Book

These stories are cozy mysteries. By that terminology, I mean mystery stories that lack profanity, blood and gore, gratuitous violence, and depictions of sexual activity. Frequently in such stories, the mystery solvers are neither police nor private detectives. Instead, the crime solvers might be people in other occupations, such as accountants, beauticians, or clerks, who come upon mysterious situations and use their knowledge of human nature and perhaps knowledge from their own fields to solve these mysteries. These sleuths might even be retired people. In cozy mysteries, mostly, these sleuths are women. These mystery solvers primarily use reasoning rather than scientific forensics. In this collection, the sleuths all happen to be private investigators, and a couple are men. In the process of reading these stories, you are apt to learn some things that you did not already know about private investigation and get some misconceptions cleared up. Most of the stories are fully realistic; however, several involve supernatural elements. You will notice that, even if the investigator finds out what the client wants, she might not wind up knowing everything. You will also notice how often these investigators rely upon the ownership or location of motor vehicles. By the way, beware of red herrings; private investigators have to.
