Danielle Baker adores her life in New York City. An outspoken atheist punk, she drinks away the nights with her controlling boyfriend, Paul. When she pushes her parents too far, she's given an ultimatum: spend six months in juvie with no home to return to afterward, or spend the summer with the brother she barely knows in Montana.

As Dani adjusts to her new lifestyle as a country girl, she faces challenges she never thought she must endure. Her blonde dreads and nose piercing cause the town to talk, but whatever, she's just serving her exile. Life as a redneck is miserable---until Dani meets Chase. A handsome ranch hand working for her brother, Chase is also the star football player and ace scholar of the countryside Marsh Valley High School.

Chase is Paul's opposite. He treats his friends—and especially women—with the utmost respect, and he can sure make her laugh. Just as Dani feels like she's finding her place in this new world, Paul shows up, begging her to come home with a promise to change his ways.

Saying no to Paul is a terrifying, but saying goodbye to Chase is even scarier. Now, Dani must make a choice that could make — or break—her life.
