The year is 1953, London. The British Empire has shrunk to a shadow of its former self and King Edward VIII is living in abdication in Europe. Now, days before the crowning of a young Queen Elizabeth, a group of monarchists with roots in the military and influence in the secret services is launching a shocking plot: kill Elizabeth at her own coronation.

A young black man has disappeared--chosen to be the other victim. The assassins have perfected the science of brainwashing, and now they will launch their human bomb at the new queen, hoping for shockwaves of racial hatred and a return to the throne of Edward VIII. But they hadn't counted on the young man's father, a policeman from Jamaica--or a beautiful young writer with a nose for a story. Now, with the help of a tough Welsh detective, they alone can stop the grisly act of violence. The queen's guard is thundering down London's historic streets--and England may never be the same!
